In October, InstaDeep’s Co-Founder and CEO, Karim Beguir, was asked to contribute to a G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development, hosted by current Presidents, Italy. His message was one of optimism and collaboration: that Africa is not just participating in the AI revolution, it’s setting new standards in innovation.

From Two Laptops to Global Influence in AI

Karim began by recalling InstaDeep’s humble beginnings, with just $2,000 and two laptops, and how the company has grown into Africa’s leading AI force, now operating in 8 countries, including four G7 nations. “My message is one of optimism,” he said. “It is possible to innovate in Africa and build win-win partnerships with developed countries.”

While celebrating the young innovators across Africa who are emerging as world-class AI experts, he described the continent’s growth as a “triple exponential” — driven by talent, data, and infrastructure. He called on G7 nations to support Africa in scaling sustainable computing capacity, advocating for solutions that can fuel AI development without compromising the environment.

Scaling green, efficient computing across Africa is essential,” he stressed. “This is key not only for AI but also for unlocking Africa’s potential in critical sectors like healthcare and education.”

A Vision for Africa’s Future

Karim outlined a bold vision for Africa’s future as a global AI leader, powered by renewable energy and world-class infrastructure. For example, North Africa’s proximity to Europe presents an ideal opportunity for solar-powered data centres that can serve both continents. “This is an exciting time,” he said. “With AI accelerating, and recent Nobel Prizes underscoring its importance, now is the moment to act.”

Calling for unified efforts, Karim highlighted the private sector’s readiness to collaborate with governments globally to create this infrastructure. “Let’s build it together,” he urged, expressing his optimism that African nations can leapfrog outdated technologies and become vital partners to Europe, the US, and beyond.

The Power of Global Partnerships

Karim concluded with a powerful reminder of the mutual benefits that an Africa-G7 collaboration could bring. “The decisions we make together now will shape the world over the next three to five years,” he stated, urging G7 nations to support Africa’s AI ecosystem. Building green infrastructure, he argued, not only bridges the digital divide but also paves the way for sustainable global growth. 🌍✨
