LONDON 30th OCT, 2019: Deutsche Bahn recently announced that InstaDeep has been awarded the contract to research and develop an AI product to support the transformation of Deutsche Bahn’s initiative to automate railway planning and dispatching. InstaDeep’s AI-based decision-making system uses a combination of Operations Research combined with Deep Reinforcement Learning, an area where InstaDeep has had numerous successes over the last few years.
Digitise German railway operations
The contract is the result of a public tender issued by DB’s Digital Rail for Germany sector program to develop a Capacity & Traffic Management System (CTMS) aiming to digitise the German railway operations. The central planning and control unit is a core component of the company’s long-term digitisation plan which aims to explore new fields of technology for an optimised railway system suitable for today’s increasingly automated environment.
Great Synergy
The contract win, publicly announced by Deutsche Bahn end of September, is a huge milestone for InstaDeep and an incredible opportunity for us to showcase our expertise and the work which has led us here.
“By awarding us the tender contract, Deutsche Bahn are demonstrating their trust in our ability to deliver. An important success factor was undoubtedly our track record offering innovative AI products and solutions in areas where few competitors can demonstrate previous commercial success” says Karim Beguir, Co-Founder & CEO of InstaDeep.
Furthermore, Karim believes InstaDeep’s advanced methodology suits the forward-thinking railway operator. “We differentiate ourselves by applying Deep Reinforcement Learning combined with Operations Research on real, practical use cases. Hence, we see great synergies with Deutsche Bahn. By optimising existing processes, our approach can unlock new efficiencies for our partners and we are very excited by this collaboration”.
With the project team already on-prem in Germany, InstaDeep looks forward to seeing the collaboration come to fruition.
